Description

Experience Michigan's wild turkey hunting with Tip of the Spear Outdoors!

We offer guided public land turkey hunts during both Michigan's spring and fall hunting seasons. Whether you're pursuing a vocal spring gobbler or targeting wild turkeys during the fall season, each offers its own unique challenges and opportunities.

Led by a licensed Michigan hunting guide and wildlife and fisheries biologist, our hunts combine practical field experience with an understanding of turkey behavior, habitat, seasonal movement patterns, and hunting pressure to help put the odds in your favor.

Spring hunts focus on pursuing Gobblers, with an emphasis on calling, locating birds, and understanding breeding season behavior. Fall hunts offer opportunities to pursue both hens and toms, with strategies focused on flock movements, feeding patterns, habitat use, and seasonal behavior.

Whether you're a new hunter hoping to harvest your first wild turkey or an experienced outdoorsman looking to improve your calling, scouting, or hunting strategies, we tailor each experience to your individual goals and experience level.

We offer both half day and full day hunting experiences, emphasizing safety, ethical hunting practices, and knowledgeable guidance. While wildlife sightings and successful harvests can never be guaranteed, we work to provide the best opportunities possible while sharing valuable knowledge along the way.

All hunts are scheduled by appointment during Michigan's established turkey hunting seasons. We are currently accepting inquiries for spring 2027, with fall hunting opportunities to follow.

What to Expect

Your guided turkey hunt begins by meeting your guide at a predetermined location to review the hunting plan, current conditions, and important safety considerations before entering the field.

Hunting strategies will vary depending on the season, weather conditions, and observed turkey activity.

During the spring season, we focus on locating and calling gobblers, utilizing their vocalizations, breeding behavior, and movement patterns to help create hunting opportunities.

During the fall season, we focus on understanding flock movements, feeding areas, travel routes, and seasonal habitat use. Both hens and toms may be pursued in accordance with applicable Michigan hunting regulations.

We offer three hunting options:

Half Day Guided Hunt: A guided hunting session focused on the most promising available opportunities, ideal for hunters with limited availability or those seeking a shorter experience.

Full Day Guided Hunt: An extended hunting experience providing additional time to adapt strategies, explore different hunting opportunities, and respond to changing turkey activity throughout the day.

Complete Turkey Hunting Experience: Our most comprehensive package includes a dedicated range preparation session, a hands on scouting session, and one full day of guided turkey hunting. Range preparation focuses on equipment familiarity, safe handling, and shotgun patterning or appropriate archery practice. During scouting, we focus on identifying turkey sign, understanding habitat and seasonal behavior, and developing hunting strategies that can be applied during your guided hunt.

Throughout your experience, we are happy to share knowledge about turkey biology, behavior, habitat, calling techniques, and hunting strategies.

In the event of a successful harvest, assistance with game recovery and field care will be provided.

Hunters are responsible for obtaining all required Michigan hunting licenses and appropriate turkey tags, along with suitable clothing and equipment.

All hunts are scheduled individually and are subject to guide availability, applicable Michigan hunting regulations, and weather conditions.

Gear & Equipment

Hunters should arrive with appropriate clothing for the season, sturdy and preferably waterproof footwear, required Michigan hunting licenses and turkey tags, and any personal equipment needed for their hunt.

We recommend camouflage or other suitable hunting clothing, water, snacks, and additional layers appropriate for changing Michigan weather conditions.

Depending on the season and hunting strategy, we may utilize turkey calls, decoys, and natural cover or ground blinds to help create hunting opportunities.

Hunters are encouraged to bring their own hunting equipment whenever possible. For those who do not own a suitable firearm, a loaner shotgun may be available by prior arrangement.

Please contact us before your hunt to discuss equipment needs and ensure you arrive properly prepared.

Weapon Details

Hunters may use their own legally permitted shotguns, bows, or crossbows in accordance with applicable Michigan turkey hunting regulations.

For hunters who do not own a suitable firearm, we have a Winchester SXP pump action shotgun available for use by prior arrangement.

All loaner firearms are subject to availability, safe handling requirements, and guide approval. Hunters must demonstrate safe firearm handling before entering the field.

Appropriate turkey hunting ammunition is required and must comply with current Michigan hunting regulations. Equipment needs, ammunition, and any necessary preparation will be discussed before the scheduled hunt.

Accessibility

Tip of the Spear Outdoors is committed to making hunting opportunities accessible to individuals of varying abilities and experience levels.

We welcome hunters with disabilities and will work with each individual to discuss their needs, physical limitations, and potential accommodations before scheduling a hunt.

Because our hunts take place on Michigan public land, terrain and accessibility can vary considerably between locations. We will make reasonable efforts to identify suitable hunting locations and adapt our approach whenever possible.

Please contact us to discuss your specific needs so we can determine the best options for your hunting experience.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements vary depending on the hunting location, terrain, season, and individual hunting strategy.

Turkey hunting may involve walking through wooded areas, navigating uneven terrain, remaining stationary for extended periods, or relocating in response to turkey activity.

We understand that every hunter has different physical abilities and comfort levels. Walking distances, rest breaks, and hunting approaches can be discussed in advance to develop an appropriate plan.

Please communicate any mobility concerns or physical limitations before booking so we can evaluate suitable hunting opportunities.

Permit & Tag Application Process

Hunters are responsible for obtaining a valid Michigan base hunting license and the appropriate spring or fall turkey license before their scheduled hunt.

Spring turkey licenses may require an application through the Michigan DNR drawing system, depending on the hunting location and season dates. For spring 2027, the application period runs from January 1 through February 1, 2027.

Fall turkey licenses are purchased separately and must be valid for the designated hunting area and season.

For individuals who have not completed hunter safety, Michigan offers an Apprentice Hunting Program that allows eligible hunters to participate under the supervision of a qualified mentor.

At Tip of the Spear Outdoors, apprentice hunters are required to book our Complete Turkey Hunting Experience, which includes range preparation, hands on scouting, and a full day of guided hunting. All applicable state mentorship requirements must also be met.

We are happy to assist clients in understanding their licensing options and obtaining the appropriate licenses before their hunt.

Please contact us before purchasing your turkey license so we can help coordinate the correct hunting area and season.
